What You Will Do

Reporting to the Manager, Racial Equity, the Engagement Consultant, Racial Equity is responsible for the implementation of community and employee engagement strategies that support the TTC’s Anti-Racism Strategy and the TTC’s adoption of Toronto Action Plan to Confront Anti-Black Racism. This position is accountable for activities, outcomes, reporting and other requirements TTC staff and Toronto's diverse racialized, Black and Indigenous communities relating to the implementation of TTC’s Anti-Racism Strategy and the Toronto Action Plan to Confront Anti-Black Racism. To this end, you will liaise and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including the City of Toronto’s Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit and Indigenous Affairs Office), community partners, consultants and TTC departments.

  • You will prepare and/or present a variety of reports, presentations, RFPs, recommendations and key deliverables related to area of responsibility in a timely manner;
  • You will maintain subject matter expertise by remaining current on diversity, inclusion and anti-racism and addressing anti-Black racism trends, strategies, best practices, new developments, and legislative changes;
  • As Engagement Consultant, you will assist the Manager - Racial Equity with the establishment of the section’s business plan and operating budget.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background and completion of a diploma or degree in Sociology, Social Work or Community Health Promotion or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience is integral and will contribute to the success in this role.
  • Your extensive experience in working with diverse racialized, Black and Indigenous communities to provide needs assessment, program planning, resource development, facilitation and project management is required.
  • Your application will demonstrate considerable experience in community development and in creating and implementing responses to address changing needs of communities.
  • Experience designing, developing and delivering a variety of popular and non-traditional, culturally appropriate materials to support community engagement is required.
  • Experience in organizational development, inter-sectoral linkages, community engagement and advocacy is required.
  • Knowledge, familiarity and involvement with the history, goals and strategies of racism and anti-Black racism movements in Toronto
  • Your strong comprehensive understanding and knowledge of diversity and inclusion, race and racism, anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism and the intersectional experiences within these communities is required.
  • Your knowledge and experience employing anti-oppression, anti-racism and anti-discrimination analytical frameworks is required.
  • Your application will demonstrate strong conflict resolution, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to develop consensus and recommend effective, strategic solutions at the community level.
  • Your ability to travel to various locations in a timely and efficient manner is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include; overtime, shift work, and occasional evenings and weekends.
  • You will be required to participate in the TTC’s Customer Service Ambassador Program
