What You Will Do

Reporting to the Director - LRT Operations and Systems, the Manager - Transit Facilities is responsible for developing TTC operating requirements and reviewing designs with respect to Metrolinx LRT and expansion projects from a physical infrastructure and fixed facility perspective. This includes ensuring that station & stop facilities, right-of-way/alignment, and maintenance & storage facilities/room size/layouts meet TTC requirements. The Manager - Transit Facilities interfaces with Metrolinx, Metrolinx contractors, and TTC internal workforce (i.e. operations) to coordinate and facilitate work impacting TTC infrastructure or work requiring integration, through all phases of the project including planning, design, commissioning, and operation and maintenance. The Manager - Transit Facilities substitutes for the Director - LRT Systems and Operations as needed.

Candidate will be required to participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • A University Degree in Engineering or Architecture, along with related experience in the public transit sector managing and leading technical staff, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Must be registered as a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Extensive knowledge of facilities, operations, maintenance, systems and components as related to bus, subway and LRT.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles, methods and practices as related to systems and facilities design, construction and project management.
  • Familiarity with relevant provincial and national laws, codes, acts, regulations and standards that include but is not limited to Construction Lien Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, CSA, environmental legislation, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business administration, fiscal concepts, human resources policies and legislation/regulations regarding safety, human rights, employment, etc.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret complex reports, recognize problems, and recommend/evaluate solutions.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software, including Microsoft applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must have or rapidly acquire knowledge of the requirements within the Master Agreement between Metrolinx, City of Toronto and the TTC as applicable to area of responsibility.
  • Act as a resource and provides consultation, direction, and guidance regarding project management and engineering issues.
  • Liaise with TTC operating departments to ensure that LRT/expansion work meets their functional requirements.
  • Manage a team of staff and/or consultants.
  • Ensure all policies, procedures and standards of the TTC and the Group are adhered to by all staff and/or consultants.
  • Promote and maintain professional working relationships and communications among staff, operations, Metrolinx and their consultants and contractors.
  • Keep abreast of industry activities, trends and best practices, technological developments, government legislation, etc. related to areas of responsibility.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
