What You Will Do

Reporting the Chief Enterprise Architect, the Director - Strategy and Architecture is responsible for leading the development and execution of the TTC’s IT strategy and roadmap, ensuring it aligns with the TTC’s corporate objectives. The role requires the managing professional teams of enterprise, domain, and solution architects to drive the evolution and oversee the design and development of TTC’s business, application, data, and technology architecture .

These accountabilities require a strategic mindset, leadership qualities, and a deep understanding of both technology and business needs. The Director must also possess the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable strategies that align with the TTC’s vision.

This role will be responsible for overseeing the creation and execution of architectural models, architectural designs, and architectural roadmaps. You will collaborate with Senior Leadership to develop and implement IT strategy that supports the business goals. You will provide leadership guidance in technology areas related to application solutions and technical architecture. You will be responsible for establishing a governance framework to steer enterprise architecture (EA) decision making.

You will offer strategic direction for key technology projects, ensuring compliance with architectural standards and IT strategy and guide the development of TTC’s technology architecture to meet present and future business requirements.

You will be involved in delivering gap analysis and IT investment roadmaps to facilitate strategic planning, aligning solutions with business processes and crafting value proposition

In addition, you will be responsible for staying current with industry trends through research, education, reading professional publications, networking, and participating in professional organizations. You will also have the opportunity to act as a substitute for the Chief Enterprise Architect when necessary and perform other related duties as assigned.

You will be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • University degree in Computer Science, Business or other relevant discipline, or the equivalent, combined with several years of progressive experience in at least two IT disciplines (i.e. technical architecture, solution architecture, network management, application development, middleware design, information analysis, database management or operations management) in a heterogeneous environment
  • Extensive knowledge of information technology with specific experience related to Enterprise Architecture
  • Experience defining and executing a large scale business and IT strategy and a demonstrated track record of leading high performance teams in attaining challenging goals
  • Experience in the full project management life cycle of technology implementation and configuration and a leadership role in successful project implementations involving web, middleware and integration technologies
  • Strong customer focus and service orientation, strong leadership skills and exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, negotiation and political acuity
  • Must possess sound judgment; superior organizational, analytical and problem solving abilities as well as well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience in solution architecture, business analysis or business strategic planning is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate and lead staff, including ability to plan, prioritize, and negotiate, direct and co-ordinate activities of a group of professional/technical staff to ensure quality/quantity standards are maintained.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
