Career Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Bus Maintenance, the incumbent is responsible for supporting productive cost centres with industrial engineering expertise allowing continuous improvement in quality, reliability, process, productivity and safety. The incumbent is responsible for asset management, coordinating the preventative maintenance program(s) for equipment and facilities, and developing and executing the departmental capital improvement program.


What You Will Do

  • Liaising with various TTC and external representatives to document and analyze current work flow and procedures
  • Identifying problem areas and prescribing specific courses of action required to resolve
  • Developing standards for reliability, quality and productivity
  • Developing new and/or revised procedures/work methods in order to achieve these standards
  • Producing procedures documentation via methodologies that will allow for constant changes and additions
  • Reviewing and auditing work performed in the bus maintenance facilities to ensure adequacy, completeness and adherence to new or revised standards
  • Conducting workload and time studies, time study process charting, operation analysis, work sampling, standard methods, time formulas to develop work performance standards and measurements
  • Performing long range planning for facilities which will meet the department’s future needs and objectives
  • Evaluating and identifying cost reductions to ensure efficiency of operations
  • Preparing facility design and layout of the work location, machinery and equipment; and designing, selecting and/or evaluating equipment and materials
  • Providing support to non-revenue maintenance operations
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e., Industrial/Mechanical Engineering) or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Registration with the Professional Engineers Ontario is mandatory.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial/process engineering principles, methods and practices
  • Must be knowledgeable of project management concepts/practices as well as legislation pertinent to labour, safety and environmental issues
  • Possess sound judgement, well developed analytical, problem solving and costing skills
  • Strong work systems design skills combined with organizational and strategic planning ability
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal communication and technical report writing skills
  • Requires strong computer skills for programs used to gather, analyze and report data
  • Must be able to direct and coordinate the work of others in order to accomplish objectives
  • Must have the ability to plan and coordinate the work of others when researching work methods and overseeing their implementation
  • Must be able to motivate, evaluate the performance of, train, counsel and discipline subordinate employees
  • Understand, interpret and apply Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures as well as applicable provisions of the Collective Agreement
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to handle changing work conditions and priorities as a regular routine
  • Must be able to deal effectively with human relations matters which may arise in the course of performing duties
