What You Will Do

In a self-directed and proactive manner, you will work with TTC's Engineering Department staff, Construction Department staff, Procurement and Category Management Department staff to: review available contract-specific information, including drawings and reports; write, edit and coordinate specification sections to precisely reflect contract requirements; verify that specifications are accurate, complete, satisfy contract requirements, and conform to TTC and regulatory requirements; review consultant-designed specification submissions at established milestones for errors, omissions, or discrepancies; provide direction and guidance to the Specification Coordinators.

As needed, you will: provide support to Standards Section for review of TTC guide documents, including Master Specifications; prepare addenda and contract changes.

You will demonstrate behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. Help to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.


What Skills Do You Bring?

  • Interpret drawings of all design disciplines, understand the technical implications and incorporate them into the contract specifications.
  • Interpret technical data on materials, products and systems to assess quality, durability, maintainability and suitability to TTC requirements.
  • Have experience with, and knowledge of the specialized requirements of transit and related facilities.
  • Have experience overseeing administrative staff.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of specifications preparation, and Construction Specifications Canada specification writing and construction document formatting practices (i.e. MasterFormat®, SectionFormat® and PageFormat®).
  • Possess extensive knowledge of bidding processes, contractual practices and procedures, and good working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations and statutes relevant to the job.
  • Be familiar with design and construction practices, the project management environment, and the terminology and techniques used.
  • Be computer literate with expert skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially MS Word, and with PDF creation and editing.


What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary education Community College/University diploma/degree in a relevant discipline, combined with several years of progressive directly related experience in an engineering / architectural / construction environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
