JOB INFORMATION We are currently looking for Apprentice - Light Rail Technician's. These positions include various shifts and off-days. Upon successful completion of the Light Rail Vehicle Technician training program, which requires the successful passing of all tests and completion of sign-off sheets. Candidates will be re-classified as a Light Rail Vehicle Technician (WG12) and will be assigned to the first available vacancy in accordance with the Maintenance Seniority Regulations.

Description

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Acquiring all required skill sets/competencies as prescribed by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development and the Ontario College of Trades.
  • Working under the direction of a Light Rail Vehicle Technician and Engineering Technologist to acquire knowledge and skills on a variety of vehicle systems and components.
  • Will be exposed to all areas of Vehicle Maintenance facilities within Vehicles Group in order to become proficient in the repair and maintenance of streetcars.
  • Emphasize is on properties of materials, trade practices, hoisting and rigging, brake systems, vehicle electrical/electronic/mechanical systems, diagnosing and repairs, network and systems, instrumentation and testing, power conversion, propulsion, air conditioning systems and heavy duty suspension systems, bogies, vehicle dynamics, safety and safety systems, and auxiliary systems.
  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program and associated examinations, graduates will be classified as Light Rail Vehicle Technicians/268R (Wage Group 12).
  • Once completed, licensed 268R Light Rail Vehicle Technicians can bid for the next available job vacancy, if you do not bid, you will be placed in the next available job opening. If there is no available job opening, you will be placed in an over strength pool of technicians for Streetcar Maintenance.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Completed Grade 12 combined with technical work experience in a related field.
  • Or completed training obtained through the completion of a 2-year community college graduation diploma in the field of electronic, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical or technology; or the completion of a red seal trade license, (i.e. but not limited to 310T, 310S, 421A, 433A, Aviation Technician), in a relevant field combined with work experience, consideration will be also be given to registered apprentices in the recognizable trade and/or certified Engineering Technologist in an electro mechanical and/or mechanical.
  • Or completed training obtained through the completion of a 2-year community college graduation diploma in the field of electronic, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical or technology; or the completion of a red seal trade license, (i.e. but not limited to 310T, 310S, 421A, 433A, Aviation Technician), in a relevant field combined with work experience, consideration will be also be given to registered apprentices in the recognizable trade and/or certified Engineering Technologist in an electro mechanical and/or mechanical.
  • Required to pass a knowledge based aptitude test as part of the selection process.
  • Must possess a valid non-probationary Class “G” or better Ontario driver’s license, with the ability to upgrade to a "DZ" driver's liscence.
  • Successful applicants will be required to attend and successfully complete all related TTC in-house courses required/related for the position.
