Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

We are looking for a Software Analyst - Intern to join us for a 8-month internship at our Toronto office.

Duration: 8 months (September 2024 - April 2025)

Hitachi Rail provides signaling systems for metros and light rail systems. Our solutions provide efficient, safe and green transportation solutions for people around the world.

As a Software Analyst - Intern you will be responsible to perform design, analysis, programming and integration activities in the development of software for train control systems of Ground Transportation Systems Canada, achieving Customer Satisfaction of the delivered solution/product.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Understands and follows the company’s processes and procedures for developing software applications
  • Implements real time systems in C++
  • Designs, codes, debugs, writes test procedures and tests software code
  • Reviews code, test procedures and test results
  • Analyses and implements corrections for defect reports
  • Support in-house testing teams to analyse and identify issues

Key Requirements:

The successful candidate should be working towards an Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science degree or equivalent, possess good written and oral communication skills, familiarity with project work environment.

  • Knowledge of software development environment
  • Knowledge of software architecture
  • Development experience in C++
  • Experience with Visual Studio
  • Perl, Python and VB scripting experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with Linux is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods and tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Docker and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with additional programming languages beyond C and Python (OOP-based)
  • Knowledge of software security practices and methodologies.
  • Previous involvement in open-source projects or contributions.
  • Exposure to automated testing frameworks and tools.
  • Participation in hackathons or coding competitions.
