Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for an Engineering Technologist to join our Renewable Energy Programs team! As part of the renewable energy engineering team, you will help make TTC’s net zero transition a success.

What You Will Do


  • You will be reporting to the Manager, Renewable Energy Engineering, and you will be responsible for providing general technical quality assurance for the TTC’s Renewable Energy Programs Department (REP).
  • You will perform technical oversight of both capital projects and operations through document reviews, planning and witnessing tests, assisting in troubleshooting and problem solving and other similar tasks, and the work will generally involve the oversight of service providers.
  • You will be responsible to confirm that system provider performs preventative maintenance in accordance with agreed-to plans and TTC policies.
  • You will review test plans and results, root cause analysis, recommended repair plans, etc. for soundness, economy and potential impact to TTC operations.
  • You will assist or perform investigations into failures or performance issues.
  • You will liaise with garage/TTC operating stakeholders address system performance issues.
  • You will provide input to and reviewing operational safety plan.
  • You will respond to emergencies and coordinating with Emergency Response Commander (ERC) as outlined in emergency plans during station emergencies; providing technical support for the safe and prompt restoration of service in conjunction with other TTC personnel and outside agencies including the system provider.
  • You will also be responsible to assist or perform cost and schedule estimation, minor project management, identifying risks and project dependencies, and providing general support to Innovation and Sustainability projects. You may also act as part of a team to deliver internal TTC projects.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in the field of electrical engineering technology, with specific knowledge in the areas of electrical distribution, renewable power and/or vehicle charging systems and/or other power electronics, communications systems, and working with SCADA systems; in combination with several years of directly related work experience.
  • O.A.C.E.T.T. certification as an Engineering Technologist is considered as an asset.
  • Registration with PEO (as E.I.T. or P. Eng.) is considered as an asset.
  • Your application will reveal comprehensive knowledge of critical industrial electrical distribution systems.
  • Your application will also reveal working knowledge of modern supervisory control software practices.
  • You must have working knowledge of quality assurance principals (e.g. reliability, availability, maintainability, safety) and the ability to diagnose and correct system problems.
  • You must also have knowledge of government and safety regulations, legislation, procedures and standards applicable complex electrical distribution systems and power generation systems in Ontario.
  • Your application will reveal excellent organizational, research, design and technical writing skills.
  • Your experience, and working knowledge of heavy vehicle charging systems, is a definite asset.
  • Your experience, and working knowledge of microgrids (e.g. the integration of renewable energy such as solar, BESS, etc. and dispatchable loads into existing electrical systems) is also a definite asset.
  • Your project-based experience with charging systems and/or microgrids/microgrid components is an asset
  • Your knowledge of Ontario’s energy market including pricing schemes, incentives and market participation is an asset.
  • Your application must also reveal proficiency with CAD systems including AutoCAD and Microstation
  • You must also be proficient with software based data analysis, preferably with Python.
