Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

As a Software Operations Intern, you will develop a deep understanding of the development process applied to safety-critical software systems as you support the definition and deployment of process improvements, develop key performance indicators (KPI), and streamline existing processes within a standards-driven environment.

This role will report to the Director of Software Engineering. Daily activities will be coordinated by the Software Process Correspondent, as you interact with Software Engineering Managers, and other Heads of Discipline

Duration: 4 or 8 months (September 2024 - April 2025)

Key Accountabilities

  • Supporting the implementation of various process improvements to the Software Engineering discipline, including review of plans, practices and checklists, and quality feedback loops
  • Engaging with project leads and software engineering managers within the department to perform the impact analysis for process improvements and agreeing on the proposed changes to process, using methods for Root Cause Analysis and Cost-Benefit Analysis to support the decision-making
  • Supporting the deployment of process changes through presentations and workshops
  • Facilitating working groups that implement specific corrective or improvement actions
  • Supporting the development of the Software Engineering Process Knowledge Base.
  • Identifying and implementing KPI for audiences internal and external to the Software Engineering Department

Key Requirements

The successful candidate should be working towards a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Computer/Systems Engineering degree or equivalent, they need to possess good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work 40 hours a week in a hybrid environment for the duration of the internship.

  • Experienced in preparing and giving presentations to audiences of varying types and sizes
  • Able to evaluate, engage with and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders to meet their aims
  • Experienced in user-focused / user-centric design
  • Experienced in using the Microsoft Office suite of applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge or experience Software Engineering lifecycles
  • Experience in organizational development and organizational learning practices
  • Experience in project management
  • Knowledge or experience PowerBI and Business Intelligence Reporting
  • Has completed 2 years in an Engineering field with a foundation level of knowledge of Systems Engineering
