Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Foreperson, Wiring & Service to join our team!


What You Will Do


Reporting to the Supervisor, Wiring & Service, you will be responsible for overseeing, and supervising the work carried out in the Wiring & Service workforce (in stations, yards, facilities, repair shops, and throughout TTC properties). This involves the installation, maintenance, inspection, repair and testing of various electrical systems (i.e., electrical, technical, structural) and/or equipment. This may include work with electronic and electrical equipment, power distribution equipment, and cables that provide traction power for streetcar and subway services.


You will also be responsible for administrative and supervisory duties such as approving/authorizing requests, training subordinate employees, timekeeping, scheduling, writing reports, budgeting, and liaising with internal and external parties. You will plan, adjust, and project work, schedules, costs and systems and provide technical expertise, guidance, assistance and recommendations for the area of responsibility.


You will work with computerized systems, prevention systems (i.e. fire detection), and many other safety systems. You will also review, modify, and update or upgrade systems and databases on an on-going basis (both hardware and software) as new, relevant information is introduced.


As Foreperson, Wiring & Service, you will record, review, process and monitor information and communication (reports, estimates, schedules, data, records, processes, and/or equipment inventory), following up and updating as required. Your duties will also include the development and organization of materials and procedures (i.e., technical manuals, supplier information).

What Qualifications Do You Bring?


  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a three-year community college technologist diploma or a university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical Engineering/Electronic Technology) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Your application will reveal possession of a valid Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician (Construction and Maintenance, 309A) and a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class “G” driver’s license. Use of a personal vehicle may be required for work assignments.
  • Your possession of an ECRA/ESA Master Electrician License or equivalent will be considered an asset.
  • Your several years of directly related work experience will also be evident in your application.
  • You application will demonstrate thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, emergency power supplies and light and power distribution systems.
  • Additionally, your application will reveal your ability to plan, assign and direct the work a skilled unionized workforce, along with thorough knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code, and an understanding of applicable TTC policies, procedures, operations, legislation and regulations and collective agreement(s).
  • You will have sound judgement, well-developed problem solving, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Lastly, in this position, you will be required to complete various training courses related to the work of the section as determined by management.
