Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

We are looking for an IT Applications Support - Intern to join us for a 8-month internship at our Toronto office.

Location: Toronto (hybrid)

Duration: 8 months (September 2024 - April 2025)

This position is within the Hitachi Rail Ground Transportation Systems (HRGTS) Canada IT Department. As an IT Applications Support intern, you will develop a deep understanding of the maintenance processes that are in place sustain business operations. You will help towards the definition and deployment of process improvements, develop key performance indicators (KPI), and streamline existing processes within a standards-driven environment.

This role will report to the Applications Manager and you will interact with Business leads on a daily basis.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supporting the implementation of various process improvements to the IT Applications discipline, including review of plans, practices and checklists, and quality feedback loops
  • Engaging with project leads and management within the department to perform the impact analysis for process improvements and agreeing on the proposed changes to process, using methods for Root Cause Analysis and Cost-Benefit Analysis to support the decision-making
  • Supporting the deployment of process changes through presentations and workshops
  • Facilitating working groups that implement specific corrective or improvement actions
  • Supporting the enhancement of the IT Application Process Knowledge Base
  • Identifying and implementing KPI for audiences internal and external to the IT Applications Department
  • Support of SAP integrations including oversight of exception handling
  • Some SAP administrative functions
  • Contribute to planning and coordinating the efforts of both the project and functional/technical support activities
  • The individual will interact with internal team members, outsourced partners, including ABAP(SAP developers) and SAP technical team for issue escalation/resolution
  • Work with managed service partner’s delivery manager to ensure quality of service (QoS) for the Operations team
  • As required the individual will be expected to respond to Help Desk requests by reviewing and resolving assigned tickets based on priority in a reasonable time, aligning to SLAs and to provide a high level of customer service
  • Interact with Business Analysts and customers to identify and document requirements that will be used to produce systems requirements documentation
  • Manage testing of SAP solutions
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Key Requirements:

The successful candidate should be working towards a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Computer/Systems Engineering degree or equivalent, they need to possess good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work 40 hours a week in a hybrid environment for the duration of the internship.

  • Experienced in preparing and giving presentations to audiences of varying types and sizes
  • Able to evaluate, engage with and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders to meet their aims
  • Analytical ability to synthesis data and reporting on metrics
  • Experienced in user-focused / user-centric design
  • Ability to stay organized and the ability to prioritize workload
  • Experienced in using the Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Customer Service and Results oriented
  • Be able to independently solve complex issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment including team members both locally and remotely both foreign and domestic
  • Ability to prioritize workload

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or experience in supporting Business Applications, such as SAP
  • Knowledge or experience with an IT Service Management application, such as ServiceNow
  • Experience with SharePoint
