Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Hardware Designer to join our team in Toronto.

The successful candidate will assist in the hardware electrical design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet customer requirements.

You will be involved with designs of moderate complexity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to assist in the design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet the customer and Railway requirements
  • Responsible for working harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others
  • Developing junior team members of the department by providing assistance, as required
  • The ability to effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action
  • Keeping track of progress on all assigned tasks
  • Verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately
  • Occasional travel may be required to customer sites, up to three times per year

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience
  • 3 to 6+ years of experience in the electrical engineering industry: Cabling; Grounding techniques and Surge Protection
  • Electrical Engineering Principles: Power circuits design; Electronic circuits including Microprocessors and Telecommunications circuits
  • Engineering tools: CAD system (AutoCAD); Multi-meter; Oscilloscope and Protocol Analyzers
  • Professional verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity
  • Effective writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required
  • The ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in the performance of assigned work

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • 3 to 6+ years of experience in the Railway Signalling industry
  • Experience formulating or contributing to the development of new designs
  • Devising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problems
  • Experience reviewing any applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc. and ensuring that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken
  • Implementing designs using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines
  • Proficiency with the skills and current technology of the discipline
  • Making efficient re-use of existing designs
  • Professional Engineer's License (P.Eng.)
