What You Will Do?

Reporting to the Director, LRT Systems and Operations, the Chief Engineer, Systems-Communications provides engineering management from a systems and operating perspective in support of the Metrolinx LRT and subway expansion projects. The incumbent acts as a technical subject matter expert to ensure that TTC requirements are coordinated and met through all phases of the expansion projects, including planning, design, commissioning, operations and maintenance. The Chief interfaces with Metrolinx, Metrolinx contractors, and TTC internal workforce (i.e. other Engineering staff, Operations, Infrastructure and Engineering, IT, Investigative Services, Strategy and Customer Experience, and/or Safety and Environment) to coordinate through all phases of the project. The incumbent develops TTC operating requirements and reviewing designs, and ensuring communication systems (Integrated Communications Systems (ICS), Public Address (PA), Intercoms, Voice Data Radio Systems (VDRS)Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) ) have the functionality, level of integration and human machine interfaces (HMI) to meet TTC’s needs. What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • A University Degree in Engineering along with related experience in the public transit sector managing and leading technical staff, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed in the Province of Ontario.
  • Extensive knowledge of systems and HMI interfaces, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Voice Data Radio System (VDRS), Distributed Antenna System (DAS), Integrated Communication System (ICS), Passenger Visual Information System (PVIS), Public Announcement (PA), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), and Backbone Communications Network (BCN).
  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles, methods and practices as related to rail communication systems and rail facilities design, construction and project management.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
