What You Will Do
Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Electrical, this position is responsible for preparing conceptual and final traction power electrical engineering designs for transit structures and facilities. The incumbent instructs, indirectly supervises, directs and co-ordinates the work of Design Engineers, Engineering Technologists, and Design Draftspersons preparing electrical drawings and specifications for contract documents; conducts or supervises investigations and studies; plans, manages and co-ordinates projects; directs and reviews the work of outside consultants; supervises the production of Standard Drawings; supervises and performs field review and shop drawing reviews; takes professional responsibility for designs as required by Professional Engineers Ontario; represents the section on development reviews, and assists with the day to day management and supervision of the Electrical & Power Design section. What Skills Do You Bring?
- Must be computer literate with a good working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work including familiarization with CADD MicroStation.
- Must possess sound judgment plus excellent technical, analytical, problem solving, project management, interpersonal, verbal communication, and engineering report-writing skills.
- Must have the ability to carry out and/or co-ordinate projects and knowledge of electrical traction power and substation systems.
- Experience specifying, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical systems.
- Experience working with and coordinating with other engineering and architectural disciplines.
What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- A university degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent combined with extensive directly related work experience in a multidisciplinary design environment.
- Must be licensed to practice as a professional Engineer in Ontario and registration with Professional Engineers Ontario is mandatory.
- Requires a sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles, methods, and practices plus a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices.
- Must have strong working knowledge of the electrical traction power equipment, transformers, AC and DC switchgear, rectifier transformers, protection coordination, rectifiers, equipment fault protection, control, annunciation, fire protection, lighting, emergency power, power distribution systems, associated equipment and systems with specific knowledge of their application to the Commission’s traction power and substation facilities.
- Must have a strong knowledge of applicable codes/practices/standards including the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, Canadian Standards Association applicable electrical standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and how they relate to Commission’s electrical equipment, substations, and traction power systems.
