Description
Hitachi Rail STS Canada is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Chief Security Officer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of engineering tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in downtown Toronto, Canada.
Accountabilities
- The Chief Security Officer is accountable for the Project Co.’s entire security and posture, both physical and digital, across multiple areas including safety, civil works, information security, privacy, physical security, internal investigations, personnel training and operation continuation.
- Provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the effective identification, development, management, and assessment of security initiatives and standards which are aligned with the Project Co’s strategic priorities and business objectives.
- Directs the coordination of security efforts across the Project organization partnering with Security & Control system Technology, Human Resources, Project or Customer Communications, Legal, Facilities management and other groups.
- Acting as the point of contact with Contracting Authority in respect of the system security and assurance activities.
- Interface and represent as Hitachi Rail Lead on Security with the Contracting Authority, Emergency Service Providers, Railway Companies, Project Co Independent Security Assessor and the Civil Contractors to ensure all aspects of the System Security Plan are aligned and accepted;
- The design, development and implementation of the System Security Plan, Project Co Security Management System and Emergency Response Plan, TVRA according to the project norms referenced.
Required Skills/ Knowledge
- 15 years of experience with at least 5 of these years in this positions with Security management leadership responsibilities on rail projects or large public infrastructure projects such as Airports/ Port Authority/ Oil & Gas
- Local experience considered an asset.

- Strong interpersonal skills, leadership, independence and ability to manage priorities;
- Skilled in interacting with direct and indirect reporting employees and with company managers;
- Skilled in interacting and influencing without authority with Project Co subcontractors and with customers and customer representatives;
- Excellent communication skills and a strong, self-motivated, work ethic;
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure;
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access);
- Proficient in English speaking, reading, and writing;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work on multiple demands simultaneously.
Education / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (e.g. information security, cyber security, MIS, engineering, business administration) is required plus
- Advanced degree such as MBA or MS preferred.
- Professional affiliations, certificates, or awards desirable. Professional affiliations, certificates, or awards desirable.
- CPP and ASIS certification highly desirable.
