Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Foreperson – Rail Vehicles to join our Streetcar Maintenance team!


What You Will Do

  • You will be responsible for scheduling and supervising inspection, maintenance, overhaul, repair and installation activities of a primarily skilled workforce in order to adequately provide safe, clean and reliable components, equipment and/or vehicles for revenue and non-revenue transit operations. This includes the supervision of those who manufacture, repair and modify components for rail fleets, facilities and program work. Adherence to schedules is a priority in cost centres where program work occurs.
  • You will plan, schedule, direct and control various maintenance operations in Harvey Shop within budgetary parameters.
  • You will perform, inspection quality checks to ensure that the servicing and cleaning functions are carried out according to current procedures and standard operating practices.
  • You may be required to conduct training sessions, technical investigations, and undertake procedural quality audits.
  • You will complete tasks required to manage employees (administrative duties) along with approving or authorizing requests which are standard and meet related policy expectations and compliance regulations.
  • You may be required to co-ordinate training in co-operation with the Training Department or other related Department, as applicable.
  • You may also be required to conduct other technical and refresher training of new and existing employees as may be required.
  • Additionally you may be required to substitute for Supervisor, Rail Vehicles or other Forepersons within Harvey Shop during periods of absences.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Your education will consist of a completed post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline combined with directly related work experience in an environment where heavy duty vehicles and their components (e.g. streetcar, diesel or hybrid buses) would be inspected, maintained and repaired to safety critical standards, and prepared for service.
  • Additionally, a valid Auto Body and Collision Damage Repair Certificate (310-B) and/or OACETT Engineering Technologist certification is considered as a definite asset.
  • Your application will reveal thorough knowledge of the body, mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and air conditioning systems utilized on urban transit vehicles (revenue and non-revenue), combined with a sound knowledge of the diagnostic, inspection, repair and maintenance procedures for these components and vehicles.
  • Your application must have an understanding of how the various skills associated with the maintenance of urban transit vehicles are utilized in a major repair and component overhaul facility.
  • Your application will reveal abilities to supervise the activities of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled unionized employees
  • You must possess a good understanding of the applicable regulations governing the maintenance and repair of commercial (MTO) and rail vehicles and applicable environmental regulations, (WHMIS, etc.)
  • Your application will reveal sound judgement plus well-developed problem solving, organizational, supervisory, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including technical report writing.
  • You must possess a valid non-probationary Class G driver’s license with the ability to obtain a class “CZ” license.
