Overview Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) is a consortium comprised of EllisDon, SNC-Lavalin, Aecon, and ACS - Dragados. CTS has been selected by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario to deliver the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit Project and is seeking highly qualified, experienced personnel to join the team of this complex P3 design and construction project. The successful candidate will be integral to the ECLRT Operations team’s success. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe movement of trains on both the EMSF Yard and Mainline (Future), including test track. Reporting to the EMSF/Yard Operations Manager, the Yard Control Operator will be responsible for coordinating all train movements when required within the yard and mainline to facilitate vehicle testing, maintenance, and vehicle recovery activities. Should be well motivated and take a proactive approach to teamwork.

Description

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Yard is maintained as a clean healthy and safe working environment under direction of the Vehicle Supervisor and Wayside Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Monitor and control train operations in the EMSF Yard using the Communications Based Train Control System (when applicable), ensuring trains are supplied as required for launch of service and ensuring that trains are moved efficiently and safely within the yard to facilitate maintenance activities during non-service hours;
  • Receive, log and answer customer problems/requests/issues;
  • Perform first level of problem identification and troubleshooting. Documenting troubleshooting process and assigns case to next level support when required;
  • Assist with the monitoring and tracking of incidents to ensure resolution is within the parameters provided;
  • Identify risks and assumptions associated with the solution;
  • Interface with ALSTOM staff to coordinate daily operations and maintenance services.
  • Oversee track authorities for maintenance work within the EMSF Yard;
  • Become familiar and proficient with a computerized maintenance management system and integrated management information reporting systems.
  • Facilitate maintenance staff responses to equipment and system failures and events as required;
  • Perform the duties of control room operator in a fast paced & dynamic environment.
  • Be an active team member by sharing knowledge, cooperating and communicating pertinent information with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Be required to be certified in the recognized safe work requirements where applicable.
  • Ensure emergency operating procedures are in place and implemented as required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma. A college diploma and/or a university degree will be considered an asset, preferably in telecommunications, logistics & electronics. 
  • Previous background in rail traffic control, train operations, maintenance operations, SCADA systems, or other service/help desk operations are all assets.
  • Previous Service Desk, Help Desk, Call Center or Technical Support experience is preferred.
  • 1 - 2 years of previous experience in transportation and logistics are considered assets.
  • Ability to identify, clarify, and resolve issues and risks, escalating them as needed.
  • Analytical, technical skills and attention to detail are critical.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, reliability and collaboration in a shift-working environment.
  • Decision making skills and an ability to work efficiently in an unsupervised environment.
  • Must possess sound judgment as well as effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to read technical manuals and instructions.
  • Must possess strong English communications skills and an ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Must be well motivated and have an aptitude for a wide variety of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Class ”G” Driver’s License
  • Familiarization with routine vehicle dispatching and yard control operation for a rail facility.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is essential, especially MS Outlook and Excel.
  • Operating the yard control board to set track switches and signals thereby ensuring the safe movement of vehicles within the yard upon implementation of a train control system.

 

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to all T&C Rail Operating Rules and procedures, including impairment and hours of work policies.
  • Carry out activities in a method that will not cause harm to themselves or other staff.
  • Ensure vehicles and/or equipment are safely stored and secured.
  • Experience with an incident tracking system.
