This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves growing new initiatives. The Centre for Inclusive Economic Opportunity, Golden Mile (CIEO) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2020 by 10 community organizations to expand economic opportunities for residents of the Greater Golden Mile (GGM), an area experiencing massive redevelopment over the next two decades. Convened and supported by United Way as part of the Inclusive Local Economic Opportunity Initiative (ILEO), CIEO’s first mandate was to partner with Aecon Group Inc. on the creation of Aecon-Golden Mile (A-GM) joint venture. CIEO member agencies have deep ties to the neighbourhood and significant experience delivering employment and other social services to residents. As 51% partner in Aecon-Golden Mile Joint Venture, CIEO’s local knowledge and connections to the community complement Aecon’s construction industry experience. The Operations Manager, Business Growth and Community Development is CIEO’s first staff hire.

Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of CIEO’s 2022 strategic plan (Strategic Goals: Grow Aecon-Golden Mile;Build and leverage community intelligence and advocacy; Provide access to training for residents and businesses to strengthen capacity to participate in good jobs and economic opportunities) and monitor deliverables
  • Represent CIEO on Aecon-Golden Mile (A-GM) Joint Venture’s Executive Committee (one of two CIEO representatives) and collaborate closely with Aecon leads to enhance business development for A-GM, preparing bids and proposals, conducting market research
  • Represent CIEO in the Greater Golden Mile community and build/deepen relationships
  • Secure additional funding to enable CIEO to deliver on its strategic plan
  • Manage contracted Training Delivery Organizations to refine outreach, recruitment, training models to ensure a skilled pipeline of talent for A-GM
  • Work with ILEO partners to map out employment and procurement opportunities arising from upcoming development in the GGM and ensuring that residents are well positioned to benefit
  • Coordinate and/or develop wrap around supports for A-GM hires to ensure employee success and retention
  • Engage and support the board via board meetings, project working groups/committees
  • Liaise with the ILEO team at United Way Greater Toronto
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job qualifications

  • Experience with business development; financial acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Experience leading, coordinating and engaging in community development activities and community partnerships that involve diverse stakeholders and community engagement
  • Proven fundraising abilities
  • Knowledge of, and interest in learning more about, the construction industry to navigate the complex interplay between developers and community
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to influence and build collaborations and partnerships that benefit communities and community members
  • Demonstrated professionalism and a proven ability to develop rapport with diverse, multi sector networks
  • Sound judgment and problem solving skills; strategic ability to make hard decisions regarding matters that require negotiating the interests of different stakeholders
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong time management, multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritize high volumes of work while meeting deadlines
  • Agility, flexibility and ability to work independently and effectively within a team dynamic
  • Strong writing skills to formulate and prepare summaries, briefing materials, findings and other documents
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and Google Office Suite, and video conferencing skills
  • Having a connection to (and knowledge/an understanding of) the Golden Mile area in Scarborough is a strong asset

Education

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree (MBA an asset) or business-focused certificate or equivalent experience
  • Educational activities or experiences that demonstrate deep knowledge of the construction industry and  neighbourhood development are an asset
  • Other education/employment experience related to this role would be an asset
