Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Assistant will support day-to-day payroll operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service. The Daniels Corporation is actively searching for a dedicated Payroll Assistant to join the People and Culture team in our Toronto office.  Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Assistant will support day-to-day payroll operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service.  The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and knowledgeable about payroll legislation and practices. This position requires four days per week in the Toronto office and one remote workday.

This posting is for an existing vacancy. The salary range for this position is between $53,000 and $65,000 per annum. Hiring salary will be determined based on experience, skill set, education and training, and other organizational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately enter and maintain employee information using Excel, databases, and internal systems.
  • Review incoming data for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and escalate issues in alignment with company procedures.
  • Manage the flow and organization of payroll and personnel administration documents.
  • Enter, update, and maintain payroll data in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Prepare documentation across all stages of the employee life cycle.
  • Follow up with people managers to ensure timely submission of employee timesheets.
  • Ensure all data and payroll processes are completed within established deadlines.
  • Handle highly sensitive employee information with strict confidentiality and integrity.
  • Perform general administrative tasks, including maintaining filing systems, banking, scanning, photocopying, and coordinating couriers.
  • Distribute year‑end documents such as T4s.
  • Track employee benefit eligibility and distribute benefit enrollment materials.
  • Support ad‑hoc projects, reporting, and analysis as needed.
  • Provide coverage for receptionist breaks.
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with administrative duties for senior executives.
  • Provide general support to the People and Culture team.

 Requirements:

  • Diploma or certificate in payroll
  • At least one (1) year of payroll experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance
  • Solid Microsoft Excel skills, knowledge of formulas is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now is an asset
  • Knowledge of labour union collective agreements is an asset
