PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides specific services such as; lines, levels, surveys, monitoring requirements, quantity take-offs and material ordering. Assists Superintendent to plan, coordinate and supervise construction activities. Assists in ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Programs as well as, legislative requirements. Also ensures the work is in compliance with all the design drawings, specifications, codes and standards. Maintains and updates on site as-built drawings.

Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      
Site Surveying: Ability to accurately provide baselines
and levels specific to the project requirements.

2.      
Estimating: Ability to determine the correct
requirements for the material and accurately quantify and order materials to
comply with the specifications.

3.      
Recording Keeping & Reporting: Knowledgeable about
and implements Eastern policies and procedures. Quality Assurance and Safety
reporting. Timely and accurate completion of concrete reporting, progress
charting, RFI's, site photos, and safety reporting requirements.  Assist as required, the Superintendent with
Field Orders, PMO’s, timesheets, Superintendent Reports.

 

LEADERSHIP & RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

1.      
Leadership: Demonstrates the ability to motivate people
to work towards a shared purpose.  Expresses
clear expectations, delegates when needed and provides ongoing feedback. In a Senior
or Chief Engineering role, may supervise the day to day activities of all other
engineering staff on site.

receptive to new information, seeking out the facts before drawing conclusions,
and showing a willingness to see things from another person's perspective.  After assessing the issue, takes the

break down problems & manage conflict by effectively dealing with issues in
a professional manner. Able to proactively seek solutions and escalating issues
when needed.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS:

1.      
Building Layout: Knowledgeable about and capable to
perform layout and apply survey principles and equipment to ensure the building
construction is within contractual requirements and tolerances. Communicates
information to trades and workers and arranges for and coordinates inspections.
Monitors and verifies subcontractor’s layout.

2.      
Health & Safety: High level of understanding of OHS
Act & Regulations and Eastern Safety program and considered a Competent
Supervisor under the Ministry of Labour guidelines. Ability to enforce H &
S policies and implement procedures with a "zero" tolerance attitude
in order to ensure a safe workplace

3.      
Contracts, Drawings & Specifications: Ability to
understand and interpret contract documents, Shop drawings, and Specifications
and subcontracts. Maintains and updates as-built drawings as required by the
project.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Education:

        
University Degree or College Diploma in Civil
Engineering, Engineering

        
Technology/Architecture or Construction Management

        
Experience: Prior work experience including knowledge
gained in construction surveying an asset.
